Painted Desert

Volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, floods and sunlight all combined to create the Painted Desert over millions of years. Now, spectators come from all over to view the 93,500-plus acres of rocks in every hue.It is home of the national historic landmark, the Painted Desert Inn, which was first crafted in the 1920’s of petrified wood (it currently serves as a museum).
