Indulgent and vibrant Mexican cuisine in North Scottsdale
Richard Sandoval brings light, ingredient-driven modern Mexican cuisine to Scottsdale at La Hacienda, located at the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess. The wood-beamed ceilings and Spanish architecture with modern urban touches set the scene for a bold dining experience that combine classic Mexican dishes with timeless European cooking techniques. The modern tequila bar greets you as you walk in, putting the 200-plus bottles from 36 different labels on display. A Tequila God or Goddess leads nightly artisan tastings on the weekends, but feel free to sample on your own any time. Guacamole is prepared tableside with three varieties — pomegranate, spicy crab or pepita — to choose from. Or, try them all as a sampler. Also set aside some room for the Queso Fundido, perfectly melted Oaxaca and Chihuahua cheeses served with hot tortillas, made even better by adding chorizo or mushrooms. All that before you move on to the delectable entrees, which include Carnitas Hacienda, excellent steak options and the Costilla de Res, a short rib that is fall-off-the-bone tender. Traditional enchiladas and fajitas round out the menu.
Complete the evening with one of La Hacienda’s flaming coffees — with a dramatic tableside presentation — innovative cocktails that perfectly complement the house-made Cinnamon Churros, served with cajeta, chocolate sauce and cream cheese natilla. La Hacienda is open for dinner nightly; hours vary seasonally.
